About Me

I was born in Havana, Cuba and moved to the Miami, Florida when I was just 17 months old. Although I spoke only Spanish until I entered kindergarten, I was fully proficient in English by the first grade and am fully bilingual and biliterate.  I was blessed to have been raised by wonderful parents who despite having limited English proficiency, understood the value of high academic achievement and continually challenged me to take risks and work to potential. My experience growing up made me keenly aware of the need for differentiated and personalized learning as well as cultural responsiveness, regardless of our students' heritage, culture, language proficiency or academic achievement level.

I began my teaching career in 1996 as a CTE Business Education Teacher at Alleghany High School in Sparta, North Carolina. In 2012, I entered the ESL field when I joined Mooresville Graded School District as their Secondary ESL Teacher. In August 2017, I returned to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools and served Oaklawn Language Academy as Middle School Academic Facilitator. This year, I reentered Career & Technical Education when I joined William Amos Hough High School, also a CMS school, as CTE Instructional Facilitator.

My husband, Mario, and I are the proud parents of two amazing children now in 7th and 10th grade.
