About Me

I was born in Havana, Cuba, and moved to Miami, Florida when I was just a toddler. Spanish was my first language and I entered kindergarten not knowing a single word in English, yet I was fully proficient in English by the first grade and remain fully bilingual and biliterate.  I was blessed to have been raised by wonderful parents who despite having limited English proficiency and no college education, understood the value of high academic achievement and continually challenged me to work to potential.

I started my teaching career as a CTE Business Education teacher at Alleghany High School in Sparta, NC. In 2011, my family and I relocated to Mooresville, NC, and soon after I moved into a Secondary ESL position with the Mooresville Graded School District. I presently serve as CTE Instructional Facilitator for Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. My background in CTE and ESL have been tremendously beneficial in my current role as we prepare young people for a rapidly evolving global marketplace.

I am passionate about differentiated and personalized learning as well as cultural responsiveness, regardless of our students' heritage, culture, language proficiency, or academic achievement level.  Students are so much more than a score. While quantifiable results are important, they only tell part of the story. We are laying a foundation for a lifetime of growth and learning - we are creating the future!

When I'm not at school, I enjoy spending time with my family. My husband, Mario, and I are the proud parents of a college junior and a high school junior, who are my favorite students and my inspiration to grow as an educator.
